Recycling
Recycling is important in today’s society if we are to save the planet and secure the future of generations to come. By reducing, re-using or recycling materials such as paper, glass and plastic, we can do our bit for the environment right here and now.
Although the use of these materials is impossible to avoid altogether, steps can be taken to ensure that more materials are recycled, thereby ensuring that less waste ends up in landfills or the natural environment.
At Smallville Packaging, we are committed to doing our bit for the environment by partnering with suppliers that have in-house recycling departments and that make use of recyclable plastic as far as possible.
Almost every hour, nearly 250 000 plastic bottles are dumped, each of which takes close to 700 years on average to decompose. This is a sobering thought; however, the good news is that you don’t have to contribute to this staggering statistic – today, it is easier than ever to play your part by engaging in recycling initiatives.
A few tips for recycling plastic include:
- Set up recycling bins in your home – one for each different kind of material and, once accumulated, drop the waste off at your local recycling centre. Similarly, seek out public recycling bins when you’re out and about at sports stadiums or public parks and beaches.
- Ensure that your materials which are set aside for recycling are drained, rinsed or cleaned depending on what was previously in them.
- Read up on the recycling rules for your area and make sure that you don’t send anything in that can’t be processed.
- Purchase products that are made from recycled material as this can give a boost to the recycling industry.
- In addition to buying recycled goods, keep a keen eye out for recyclable goods. Whenever you purchase something that’s packaged in plastic, think about how you can recycle the packaging or at least try to re-use it.
